Students, parents and fans of Kingsport City Schools flocked to J. Fred Johnson Stadium Thursday night for the annual Middle School Football City Championship between John Sevier and Ross N. Robinson middle schools.

In the varsity game, the Warriors overcame a 21-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Redskins, 22-21, and capture the City Championship! The annual battle between Kingsport's two city middle schools is the final game of the season for both teams and is played on the high school field where they'll become part of one Tribe.

“With the size of the crowd in the stands and the rivalry, this is one of the most exciting games these kids will play in, at least until they get to the varsity level at Dobyns-Bennett,” said Robinson coach Jeff Frye.

Sevier also won the JV contest in overtime, 32-30.

A majority of the schools’ student bodies is involved with activities centered around the game, including the national anthem which is performed by a combined band of musicians from the two schools.
