OGDEN — A Roy man accused of molesting a boy multiple times pleaded guilty to multiple felonies in connection with the case.
Wesley David Simonson, 30, agreed to a plea deal Wednesday morning and entered guilty pleas to five charges.
Simonson pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; one count of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony; and three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies.
The aggravated sexual abuse of a minor charge carries a minimum 15 years to life sentence.
During the Wednesday hearing, Judge Jennifer Valencia asked Simonson if he’s entering guilty pleas because he was guilty. He replied yes.
In return for his plea, 10 of the 15 charges against him were dropped.
Charging documents indicate the victim — who was seven years old at the time of the abuse — told police at the Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center that Simonson sexually abused him on “multiple occasions.”
Simonson had the boy perform oral sex on him on more than one occasion, and he also took nude photos of the child on his cell phone, according to the arresting documents.
After he was read his Miranda rights, Simonson admitted to police during an interview that he molested the child twice. Simonson said he was babysitting the child during both incidents, documents say.
Simonson also admitted to taking the nude photos of the child, and said he deleted them about 20 minutes after taking them, documents say.
Simonson’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18 in Ogden’s 2nd District Court.
He is being held at the Weber County Jail in lieu of a $180,000 bond.
